Microsoft Windows 8 sales hit 60 million

CBR Staff Writer Published 09 January 2013

Windows 8 has a similiar sales pattern of the Windows 7 launch in 2009.

Microsoft Windows 8 sales have hit 60 million since its launch in October 2012, marking a steady start for the software major's new flagship product.

According to the company, this number represents the cumulative sales of Windows 8 including both upgrades and sales to OEMs for new devices.

This is said to be a similar sales trajectory that was witnessed with Windows 7.

Windows 7 also reported sales of about 60 million within the first two months of its launch in 2009.

Since its launch, 1,700 certified systems for Windows 8 and Windows RT were witnessed.

Since late November 2012, Microsoft sold about 20 million Windows 8 licenses and upgrades, while 40 million licenses were sold in the first month of launch.

Windows 8, which has been designed as a rival to Apple's iOS products including the iPad, is being offered as Windows 8 Pro and Windows 8 Enterprise, for larger businesses.
